Laws And Equations Flashcards
Boyle’s law
Pressure x volume = constant (if temp remains constant)
P1 V1 = P2 V2
Charles law
If pressure remains constant then volume is proportional to temp
V/T = constant
V1/T1 = V2/T2
Combined gas law
P1V1/T1 = constant
Mechanisms of heat transfer
Conduction - molecules collide, spread of heat from one place to another
Convection - spread of heat in a fluid, less dense = rises
Radiation - emission of electromagnetic waves
Newton’s 2nd law
Rate of change of momentum of a body is proportional to the force applied
Newton’s 1st law
A body will remain at rest/motion until an external force is applied
Newtons 3rd law
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction
Momentum eq
Mass x velocity
Thrust eq
Mass x acceleration n
Work eq
Force x distance
Power eq
Rate of doing work
Torque eq and what it depends on
Twisting force/moment
Depends on
- force applied
- length of lever arm
- included angle
Efficiency
The measure of output compared to input
