Carburettor Flashcards
1
Q
Impact ice
A
Water droplets in the atmosphere coming into contact with engine parts below 0*c
2
Q
Fuel ice/refrigeration ice
A
Cooling effect on water droplets of fuel evaporation after induction into the airstream
3
Q
Throttle ice
A
Freezing of water droplets at or near the throttle - can completely jam the throttle
4
Q
Symptoms of carb icing
A
Low CHT Rough running Loss of power Drop in RPM (fixed pitch props only) Drop in MAP (constant speed props)
5
Q
Carb heat
A
Hot air from the exhaust is run through the carburettor
Reduces the RPM of the engine due to the less dense air
Apply for 20-30 secs only
6
Q
Diffuser - carb
A
Prevents rich cut
Increases the amount of air mixing with the fuel - decreases the amount of fuel in the engine
Maintains a correct mixture across a wide speed range
