What are the functions of A.I.S.?

A

• To collect, collate, edit and disseminate Aeronautical Information, necessary for the safety
and efficiency of air navigation, or interested parties. This includes CAA, ANSPs, Aircraft
Operators, aircrew, flying clubs and other aviation related organisations;
• Receive post-flight information.

• International NOTAM Office (INO) o The main functions of the INO are:
▪ Preparation and issue of UK civil and military NOTAM via AFTN;
▪ Receiving/transmitting information from/to international NOTAM offices.
▪ Dissemination of AIS data to enable the production of PIBs.
• Static Data Office o This office consists of two departments:
▪ UK AIP Publications Section.
▪ Foreign Library Section.

A

• Deficiency in, or doubts about, competence to provide an ATC service;
• Doubts about whether an individual is a fit person to hold a licence, in relation to their

• Inability to meet the appropriate medical standards.

What happens to an aircraft when NAV lights fail?

A

• An a/c shall not depart at night if there is failure of required lighting which cannot be
fixed/replaced
• If an a/c is in flight, they shall land as soon as safely able unless ATC authorise to continue
flight:
o Normally only within UK airspace (unless coordinated) o
Not authorised outside CAS or in class E airspace
