Large salivary glands Flashcards
Large salivary glands, location and function
Produce moisture, serosmucosa in oral cavity
Gl. sublingualis monostoatic
not present in Eq.
Medial to gl. mandibularis, btw m.digastricus–> m.masseter
Extends along ductus mandibularis, caudal part in direct contact w the mandibular gland (Car)
Ductus sublingualis major
Gl. sublingualis monostoatic major duct:
Opens into sublingual curuncla togheter w. mandibular duct
Gl.sublingualis polystomatic
Series of small salivary glands, lies in the submucosa of the floor of the mouth.
- lies along ductus mandibularis
Ductus sublingualis minores
Gl.sublingualis polystomatic ducts:
open along ploca sublingualis
Gl. mandibularis
Btw basihyoid- ala atalntis
Partly covered by parotid gland
Ductus mandibularis
- passes rostrally btw m.mylohyoid-m.hyoglossus
- medial to sublingual glands
- opens at sublingual caruncula
Gl.parotidea
largest salivary gland (not in Bo)
- fills retromandibular fossa (fossa btw ramus mandibularis -ala atlantis)
- related dorally to ear
- covered by fascia (fascia parotidea)
Gl.parotidea, which vessels/structures are associated around this gland
behind the gland - A. carotis ext. V. jugularis ext., N. facialis. N. trigeminus
Gl. parotidea shape
Car= triangular and small Su= triangular and large Ox= club-shape Eq= large, ventral end larger
Gl. parotidea (Eq)
Fills the fossa retromandibular fossa completely
Its ventral part is wider, occupied the angle between the v.lingufacial and v.jugularis externa
Ductus gl. parotidea
Car - runs across the lateral surface of the M. masseter
Su, Bo, Eq – runs ventral to M. masseter
ends at the papilla parotidea
Pappila parotidea
on the lateral wall of the buccal vestibule
ductus parotideus ends on it:
located in dog, horse – opposite the third upper cheek tooth
located in ox opposite the fifth upper cheek tooth
