Landing Gear, Brake and Nosewheel Steering Flashcards
Nosewheel steering degrees of turn?
80’ with tiller, 8 with rudder pedals
What holds the MLG in the extended position?
Mechanical overcentering with downlocks
What holds the nose gear in a retracted position?
A spring loaded overcenter type locking mechanism
What holds the main gear in the retracted position?
A mechanical uplocks and hydraulic system 3 pressure
What controls the landing gear?
The proximity sensing electronic unit
What ensures the nose gear is centered prior to retraction into the well?
The ECU sends a signal to center after takeoff, then a centering cam keeps it centered when hydraulic pressure is removed
What complications can you expect if hydraulic systems 2 and 3 fail?
Nosewheel will not extend
What hydraulic system is used to raise and lower the gear?
3
When will (TOO LOW GEAR) aural warning sound?
With the radar altitude below 500 feet at a speed of less than 190 kts IAS
Why is it important to not move the tiller in flight with the gear extended?
No EICAS warning in flight with gear extended.
What is locked wheel protection?
Antiskid control unit balances wheel rotation speed (within 30% of wheel rotation)
What is touchdown protection?
Brakes will not be applied until 35 kts wheel spin is achieved or WOW is +5 seconds.
What color does brake temperature monitor display heat in?
Green is normal range 0-6
White (caution range) 7-14
Red (overheat range 15-20
After landing or RTO, what is the minimum turn around time?
15 minutes to ensure max brake temperature has cooled
What are the brake accumulators charged to?
750psi
