Landing Gear Flashcards

1
Q

Describe the meaning of green Landing Gear indicator lights for landing gear verification

A

Related gear is down and locked. Landing gear is down and locked as long as one green landing gear indicator light (center panel or overhead panel) for each gear is illuminated

Q

Explain the meaning of the (amber) AUTO BRAKE DISARM light

A
  • SPEED BRAKE lever moved to down detent during RTO or landing
  • Manual brakes applied during RTO or landing
  • Thrust lever(s) advanced during RTO or landing (except during first 3 seconds after touchdown or landing)
  • Landing made with RTO selected
  • RTO selected on ground (illuminates for two seconds then extinguishes)
  • A malfunction exists in automatic braking system

Q

Recall antiskid is available in the normal and alternate brake systems

A

Antiskid protections is provided in the normal and alternate brake systems. Both normal and alternate brake systems provide skid, locked wheel, touchdown and hydroplane protection

Note: antiskid protection is available even with loss of both hydraulic systems

Q

Describe the brake systems

A

Normal Brake System:
- The normal brake system is powered by hydraulic system B
- Anti-skid and auto brakes are available

Alternate Brake System:
- The alternate brake system is powered by hydraulic system A
- If hydraulic system B is low or fails, hydraulic system A automatically supplied pressure to the alternate brake system
- Anti-skid is available
- Auto brakes are inoperative

Brake accumulator:
- The brake accumulator is pressurized by hydraulic system B
- If both normal and alternate brake system pressure is lost, trapped hydraulic pressure in the brake accumulator can still
provide several braking applications or parking brake application
- Auto brakes are inoperative
- Accumulator pressure is shown on the HYD BRAKE PRESS indicator

The autobrake system:
- Uses hydraulic system B pressure to provide maximum deceleration for rejected takeoff and automatic braking at
pre-selected deceleration rates immediately after touchdown
- The system operates only when the normal brake system is functioning
- Antiskid system protection is provided during autobrake operation

Parking Brake:
- The parking brake can be set with either A or B hydraulic systems pressurized
- If A and B hydraulic systems are not pressurized, parking brake pressure is maintained by the brake accumulator

Q

Recall how the auto brakes can be disarmed

A
  • Moving the SPEED BRAKE lever to the down detent
  • Advancing the thrust lever(s) forward, except during the first 3 seconds after touchdown for landing
  • Applying manual brakes
  • Moving the selector switch to the OFF position
