- refers to the myth of femininity being the end goal and source of happiness for women
- being a perfect wife and mother will lead to happiness and when this doesn’t happen it leads to discontent

- Women live two work lives – first shift in the labour force (paid labour in the public sector) and second shift at home (unpaid labour in the private sphere)
