Assisted Bath
nurse helps patient do bath, usually back and buttocks, legs

total body area washed. Usually refers to bed bath

omit bathing chest, abdomen, legs, thighs, and feet
Shearing
friction causes resistance on surface layers of skin while underlying tissue moves in direction of body movement
Alternating Pressure Mattress
air forced through mattress on alternating basis to decrease pressure on body prominences
Aqua K Pad
Electrical unit that heats water pumped through plastic pad providing local heat
Bed Board
board which provides hard surface especially for clients with back problems
Disposable Pad (Chux)
absorbent pad placed under drainage sites and used with the incontinent patient
Draw/Pull/Transfer Sheet
1/4 to 1/3 size of twin sheet placed from shoulder to thigh area of client to ease in movement
Floatation Pad
Pad or mattress containing water or gel to reduce pressure on body parts
Footboard
board used to keep foot in normal flexed position
Foot Cradle
arch over bed foot to keep covers from touching feet or lower extremeties
Gatch
moveable joint of the bed
Sheepskin
soft fuzzy washable pad that protects the skin
Taut
tight, important for bottom and draw sheet
Trapeze
triangle that hands over bed from orthopedic bar. Patient can use it to lift upper torso and help with movement
