How does bone look in ultrasound?
The cortex of the bone creates a white line with shadows beneath it. Beware of reverse image artifacts that proceed into the shadow of the bone.
Where are arm nerves easy to find? Easy to see?
Easy to find in the lower arm because the nerve is next to the artery. Easy to see in the upper arm because its a little deeper and allows time for sound waves to reflect off of it.
What do you look for in an ultrasound of a broken bone?
Discontinuance of the white cortex
This patient is worried he hurt his knee playing basketball. What are you looking at?
A normal patellar tendon.
What helps you determine if this is an abscess or cellulitis?
Cobblestone appearance typical of cellulitis. Abscesses will have a big pocket of pus.
