What do you need in lab?
A calculator, pencil, lab sheet, and anything else specifically necessary.
How should you dress for lab?
With closed toe shoes, no baggy clothing, a lab apron, goggles, and tied back hair.
How should you act in lab?
No horseplay; act respectively.
What should you do if you’re unsure how to continue with an experiment?
Ask the teacher, do not continue or improvise.
What is personal safety equipment?
Goggles, aprons, and gloves.
What is classroom safety equipment?
Fire blankets, fire extinguishers, first aid kits, eye wash stations, and safety showers.
How long do you wash for at an eye washing station?
15-20 seconds/minutes.
What is the right way to smell something?
Waft it.
What do you do with broken glassware?
Use a dustpan and dump it into a designated glass disposal or trash can.
How should you handle sharp tools?
Hold then sharp tip down and always cut away from your body.
How do you light a Bunsen Burner? What type of flame do you want and not want? How do you adjust the flame?
Turn on the gas and then light it coming up from the bottom. You want an internal cone-shaped blue flame, not a dirty flame. To fix this, you should twist the sides in order to adjust it.
How should you heat substances above a flame?
With the mouth facing away from yourself.
Where should you conduct activities involving poisonous vapors?
In the fume hood.
When mixing acid and water, what do you add to what?
You should always add acid to water (AAA)
What should you do if the flame of a burner disappears into the burner or is too yellow?
Start all over or, with a yellow flame, increase the air supply.
