Lab Midterm Flashcards
Recording oscillographs
are general purpose precision measurement and recording instruments used for physiological experimentation. BIOPAC is an computerized oscillograph.
What are the two components of a processor?
coupler and amplifier
What does a coupler do?
modifies the electrical signal from the transducer so that it can be recognized by the remaining components of the recording channel
What does balancing do?
sets the channel to zero
Calibrations?
synchronizes the signal from the sensing device and the deflection on the record
Three components of a stimulus:
Intensity
Duration
Frequency (only applicable when the setup is continuous)
What is the only feature of the stimulator controlled directly by the box?
voltage
What is a triad?
Where the two lateral sacs and the t-tubule come together in the region of the z-line
Where are the t-tubules in amphibian muscle?
Z-line
Where are the t-tubules in mammalian muscle?
A-I zone
Where is ATP used?
base of myosin head ATPase
Ca++ ATPase pump
What are the three enzymes that are effected by cooler temperature?
ACHase
Myosine ATPase
Calcium ATPase
slow ACHase?
in the NMJ, if ACHase activity is slowed, more ACH will be in contact witht he N receptors longer, more APs, this will increase the DURATION of the contraction
cooled myosin ATPase?
ATP is not being cleaved efficiently, cross bridges not working, slow ratchet, slow contraction, DECREASE FORCE
cooled Ca++ ATPase?
increase of time that Ca++ is int he sarcoplasm, increase time of relaxation
