Q

gamma-Glutanyktransferase

A

catalyzes transfer of glutamyl group from a glutamyl peptide to sn AA of another peptide

  • several organs but increases in serum are usually from hepatobiliary system
  • used in diagnosis for liver diseases such as alcoholic cirrhosis and secondary liver tumors
  • this may be used to confirm if an increase in ALP originate in the liver

Q

KINETIC assays

A
  • enzyme incubated with substrate
  • substrate, product, co-factor measured continuously or several points as a function of time
  • allow for demonstration of linearity of a rxn
  • measured over a short period of tie = little danger of enzyme inactivation
  • warning provided if substrate conctn falls below optimum (NOT in fixed time or end-pt rxn)
