Lab Final: Test F Flashcards
Object remote memory
where did you go to high school
test orientation
name, location, day of week
two point discrimination
paperclip, tell when points are together, 3 spots per extremity
pain sensation
prick with neurotip, 5 times per extremity
passive elbow motion
flexion, extension, supination, pronation
muscle test wrist flexors
hold while I pull hand down
finger nose
touch finger to nose in all 4 quadrants
forced gait
walk on heels
walk on toes
**stand close
gag reflex
describe the test; press against the back of the throat with tongue depressor,
response: pt should gag upon touching the back of throat
Afferent: glossopharyngeal
Integrating center: medulla
Efferent: vagus nerve
carotid sinus reflex
Response: reduction in HR when examiner presses carotid sinus
Afferent: glossopharyngeal
Integrating center: medulla
Efferent: Vagus nerve
brachioradialis reflex
hit brachioradialis with flat side of hammer
- slight flexion of forearm
- afferent/efferent: radial
- integrating: C6
babinski
-stroke foot positive would be big toe coming up and flaring of toes
pt presents with complaint of double vision whenever he looks to the left. you notice larger pupil on the right, and right eye pstosis. state the cranial nerve to be tested
-abducens (IV) and oculomotor (III) trochlear
- direct light
- indirect light
- accomodatoin
- check for pstosis
- extraocular movts
direct light reflex
pt divides eyes response-ipsilateral pupillary constriction when light is shined in the eye afferent- optic nerve integrating- midbrain efferent- oculomotor
indirect light reflex
pt divides eyes with hand, bright light in from side and look at opposite eye
- contralateral pupillary constriction when light is shined in the eye
- afferent: optic nerve
- integrating: midbrain
- oculomotor nerve
accomodation
bring finger close to pts nose and back slowly
response: convergence of eyes with pupillary constriction
- afferent: optic nerve
- integrating center:- occipital cortex
- efferent: oculomotor
pt presents with left foot pain, points to top of left foot as site, left hip seems more stable than his left nerve? disc level? tests? reflex?
- L5
- L4
- dorsiflexion: extensor hallicus longus and extensor digitorum longus/brevis (deep peroneal n)
- big toe dorsiflexion: extensor hallicus longus (deep peronal)
- toes 234 dorsiflex: extensor digitorum longus/brevis (deep peroneal)
- hip abduction: gluteus medius and minimus
- no reflex
- dermatome L4,L5,S1
patient has muscle weakness on finger adduction. state and perform motor test
- fromet paper sign
- positive: pt unable to maintain grip on paper
- indicates: ulnar paralysis
pt complains of weakness in the hands working overhead. state and perform appropriate test for clavicle and 1st rib
- eden test
- find pulse, shoulder back, drop chin to chest
- pain and/or parathesia, decreased or absent pulse, pallor
- compression of neurovascular bundle between clavicle and 1st rib
pt has low back pain. state and perform ortho test to differentiate a lumbar pain from pelvic pain
- belt test
- pain while supported and unsupported is a lumbar issue
- pain while unsupported but absense while supported is a pelvic issue
