Lab Final Flashcards
Vastus lateralis OIA
ORIGIN: femur (greater trochantor, linea aspera);
INSERTION: patella, tibia (tuberosity, condyles);
ACTION: extend knee, anchor patella
Rectus Femoris OIA
ORIGIN: ilium (anterior inferior spine), acetabulum (superior margin), hip joint capsule;
INSERTION: patella, tibia (tuberosity, condyles);
ACTION: extend knee, flex thigh at hip, flex trunk on hip
Vastus intermedius OIA
Origin: femur
Insertion: patella, tibia(tuberosity, condyles)
Action: extend knee, anchor patella
Semitendinosis OIA
ORIGIN: ischium (tuberosity);
INSERTION: tibia (medial proximal);
ACTION: flex knee, medially rotate tibia on femur, medially rotate femur on hip, counteract forward bend at hip
Semimembranous OIA
ORIGIN: ischium (tuberosity);
INSERTION: tibia (medial condyle and margin), femur (lateral condyle and popliteal region ligament);
ACTION: flex knee, medially rotate tibia on femur, medially rotate femur on hip, counteract forward bend at hip
Biceps femoris OIA
ORIGIN: long head- ischium (tuberosity) short head- femur (linea aspera);
INSERTION: fibula (head);
ACTION: flex knee, extend hip, laterally rotate tibia on femur, laterally rotate femur on hip, elevates trunk from forward bend at hip
Biceps brachii OIA
ORIGIN: long head- glenoid cavity (superior margin), short head- scapula (coracoid process);
INSERTION: radius (tuberosity), forearm fascia;
ACTION: flex elbow
Triceps brachii OIA
ORIGIN: long head- glenoid cavity (inferior margin), lateral head- humerus (posterior proximal), short head- humerus (posterior proximal shaft);
INSERTION: ulna (olecranon process), forearm fascia;
ACTION: extend elbow
Rectus abdominus
ORIGIN: pubic symphysis, pubis (superior margin);
INSERTION: xyphoid process, costal cartilage;
ACTION: flex lumbar vertebrae, forward bend
External oblique
ORIGIN: ribs 5-12;
INSERTION: pubic symphysis, pubis (superior margin), iliac crest (anterior 1/2);
ACTION: stabilize organs, posture, exhale, urination
Internal oblique
ORIGIN: iliac crest, thoracolumbar fascia;
INSERTION: pubis, ribs 10-12, costal cartilage 7-10;
ACTION: stabilize organs, posture, exhale, urination
Transverse abdominus
ORIGIN: iliac crest, thoracolumbar fascia, costal cartilage;
INSERTION: pubis, internal oblique;
ACTION: compress abs w/o vertebral movement
Popliteal fossa
(sometimes referred to colloquially as the knee pit, or poplit) is a shallow depression located at the back of the knee joint. The bones of the popliteal fossa are the femur and the tibia.
