What is exotropia?
Lateral drift of the eye
What is esotropia?
Medial drift of the eye
What is aniscocoria?
Unequal size of pupils
What is a Hordeolum?
Stye on the eye or eyelid (painful)
What is a Chalazion?
Painless, nodular lesion due to tear gland obstruction
What is a Pterygium?
Growth of the eye that starts on the sclera and can invade the cornea
What is a Xanthelasma?
Benign lesion due to cholesterol deposits around the eye
How would the eyes react to the cold water caloric test?
Eyes move toward the water then have rapid nystagmus to the opposite side
How would the eyes react to the warm water caloric test?
Eyes move away from the water then have rapid nystagmus toward the same side
Why is correction of Strabismus so important in kids?
It can lead to amblyopia and permanent blindness

Lazy eye
What is Strabismus?
Misalignment of the eyes
What is the cover/uncover test used for?
Tests for weakness of EOM’s
What is the most common cause of Bacterial Conjunctivitis in adults?
S. Aureus
What is the most common cause of Bacterial Conjunctivitis in children?
H. Influenzae

What are the major Sx’s of Bacterial conjunctivitis?
Unilateral, eyes matte shut during sleep, purulent discharge throughout day
What virus is most commonly associated with Viral Conjunctivitis?
Adenovirus
What are the major Sx’s of Viral conjunctivitis?
URI prodrome, gritty/sandy feeling of eyes, starts unilateral and goes bilateral quickly, clear discharge from eyes
What are the major Sx’s of Allergic conjunctivitis?
Bilateral redness, watery discharge, iching
When is a Fluorescein stain used?
AFTER complete eye exam to look for epithelial defect/foreign body
