Lab Exam Microscope Parts Flashcards
What are the 3 parts to the Stand of the Microscope?
- Base
- stage adjustment knobs (moves slide vertically and horizontally)
- focusing adjustment knobs (coarse will cause coarse or large degrees of movement of the stage), (fine, cause fine, barely visible movements of the stage)
What are the 4 objective lens on the microscope attached to the Nosepiece?
- 4X scanning objective (magnified by factors of 4)
- 10X low power objective (magnified by factor of 10)
- 40X high power objective (magnified by factor of 40)
- 100X oil lens x 100 power = 1000
Which magnification power can be monocular and binocular?
The ocular lens (magnification power of 10X)
For scanning, low and high dry objectives, what is the total magnification?
Scanning 4X * 10X = 40X shortest lens
Low Dry 10X * 10X = 100X
High Dry 40X * 10X = 400X taller lens
How can light be adjusted on the Microscope?
- By raising or lowering the condenser
- By opening or closing the iris diaphragm to control the amount of light passing through the condenser
what is the 4th objective lens called?
oil lens
what does parfocal mean on the microscope?
the lens are closely aligned w/each other and you only need a slight turn to get the others in focus, too
the ocular eye lens can be bifocal and monocular. true or false?
true!!!
what is the most common stain found in histology?
H&E
90% of slides will be stained w it
how many times does the ocular lens itself magnify?
10x
what does the coarse adjustment knob do?
moves M.S up and down bigger movements
what does the fine adjustment knob do???
moves M.S. slightly up and down
what does the stage control knob do?
moves the slide back to front or front to back & side to side
what does the condenser do? what is the iris of diaphragm
collects the rays of light to one point
it opens the light and closes the light controls amt. of light
why do we call it the oil lens?
the distance between the lens and slide filled w a drop of oil and not air
