Lab 6 Flashcards
Supraspinatus
Origin: Supraspinous fossa of scapula
Insertion: Greater tubercle of humerus
Action: Initiates abduction of arm
(Rotator Cuff)
Infraspinatus
Origin: Infraspinous fossa of scapula
Insertion: Greater tubercle of humerus
Action: Lateral rotation of arm
(Rotator Cuff)
Teres Minor
Origin: Lateral margin of posterior scapula
Insertion: Greater tubercle of humerus
Action: Lateral rotation of arm
(Rotator cuff)
Subscapularis
Origin: Subscapular fossa
Insertion: Lesser tubercle of the hummerus
Action: Medially rotates the head of humerus
(Rotator cuff)
Teres Major
Origin: Posterior surface of inferior angle of scapula
Insertion: Intertubercular sulcus of humerus
Action: Extends, medially rotates, and adducts arm
Deltoid
Origin: Lateral third of clavicle, acromion and spine of scapula
Insertion: Deltoid tuberosity of humerus
Action: Acting as a whole, prime mover of arm abduction
Coracobrachialis
Origin: Coracoid process of the scapula
Insertion: Medial surface and border of the body of the humerus
Action: Flexion, adduction of arm at shoulder joint, assist in retaining the head of the humerus in contact with glenoid cavity
Triceps Brachii
Origin: Long head- inferior margin of glenoid cavity, lateral head- posterior humerus, Medial head- distal radial groove on posterior humerus
Insertion: Olecranon of ulna
Action: Powerful forearm extensor
Aconeus
Origin: Lateral epicondyle of humerus
Insertion: Lateral aspect of olecranon of ulna
Action: Abducts ulna during forearm pronation
Biceps Brachii
Origin: Short head- coracoid process, long head-supraglenoid tubercle and lip of glenoid cavity
Insertion: Radial tuberosity
Action: Flexion (powerful) and supination of forearm
Brachialis
Origin: Distal portion of anterior humerus
Insertion: Coronoid process of ulna
Action: flexor of forearm
Brachioradialis
Origin: Lateral ridge at distal end of humerus
Insertion: Base of radial styloid process
Action: Synergist in forearm flexion
Pronator Teres
Origin: Medial epicondyle of humerus and coronoid process of ulna
Insertion: Midshaft of radius
Action: Pronate forearm
Pronator Quadratus
Origin: Distal portion of anterior ulnar surface
Insertion: Anterior surface of radius, distal end
Action: Pronates forearm
Supinator
Origin: Lateral epicondyle of humerus, proximal ulna
Insertion: Proximal end of radius
Action: Synergist of biceps brachii to supinate forearm
