LAB 3 CELL CYCLE AND MITOSIS Flashcards
CELL CYCLE
Changes cell undergo from the time its form to the time its divided
(process of cell growth and division)
What are the stages of the cell cycle?
Interphase, Mitosis, Cytokinesis
What is Interphase?
What happens during this stage of the cycle?
1st stage - Cell grows and DNA is replicated
Phases:
S Phase (synthesis): DNA replicated
G1 & G2 Phases: cell grows
What is Mitosis?
What happens during this stage of the cycle?
2nd stage - Nucleus divided into two
- Two daughter cells are produced - CELL DIVISION
What are the (4) phases of Mitosis?
P-MAT
1. Prophase
2. Metaphase
3. Anaphase
4. Telophase
What happens during ‘Prophase’?
Chromatins form chromosomes
NOTE:
- Two sister chromatides joins and makes chromosome
- Two chromatides join together by a centrimere to form 1 chromosome
What happens during Metaphase?
(M - Middle)
chromosomes align in the middle of the cell
(They are moved by fibers called - SPINDLE)
What happens during Anaphase?
(A - Away)
Chromosomes SEPERATE and moves ‘away’ in opposite directions - towards centrioles
(moved by spindle fiber)
-Sister chromatides move apart
-Each chromatides becomes an individual chromosomes
What happens during Telephase?
(T - Two)
Chromosomes are at opposite ends - Nuclear membrane forms around both sets of chromosomes
Note: TWO NUCLEUS becomes vissible (Nucleoli)
What is the name of the fiber thats responsible for the MOVEMENT of chromatides?
Spindle fiber
(Present in Metaphase and Anaphase)
What is the cytokinesis stage?
What happens during Cytokinesis?
Final seperation and completion of both cells
-Two identical DNA cells is formed
Cytoplasmic division - Cytoplasm is seperated in halfs (2)
FACTS OF SISTER CELLS
-Each new sister cells has 46 CHROMOSOMES
-Both sister cells has IDENTICAL DNA
What is the “Centromere”?
Connects the sister chromatins —– Center piece of chromosomes
