lab Flashcards
1
Q
Why replicate
A
*Expand to other populations
* Substantiate existing theories
* Curb the replication crisis
* ensure results are applicable to multiple studies
2
Q
Replication crisis
A
- Scientists prefer to publish new research
This has led to very little
testing of existing
research for accuracy
and generalizability.
3
Q
Types of replication:
A
- Direct replication (exactly the same)
*Same environment
* Same sample
* Same IV and DV
* Same outcome measures
* Same statistic - Replicate with extension (follow as close as possible but add a little extra)
ex. correlate happiness and screen time
new research could add in reduction of stress
Formal assessments of replication can be
obtained
* Effect sizes can be estimated with more
precision
* Can assess moderator effects - Conceptual replication (measuring same construct but using different independent variables)
Varying the operational
definitions to get a new
research hypothesis
* Test same constructs… but…
* May not use the same
environment or sample
* May alter what
constitutes a behaviour,
state, or trait.
* May use a different
measurement
