Lab 1: Anatomy, Histological Slide Preperation & Epithelia Flashcards
C7 Location
C7 has large spinous process that protrudes posteriorly toward skin at back of neck. Represents bottom of cervical spine & connects with top of thoracic spine, T1, to form the cervicothoracic junction.
C7 Clinical Relevance
Attachment site for many muscles, important landmark for counting vertebrae for vertebral spinal surgery.
SC Joint Location
SC= Sternoclavicular Joint: connects the clavicle to the sternum.
AC Joint Location
AC= Acromioclavicular Joint formed by the clavicle and the acromion (cap of the shoulder).
SC Joint Clinical Relevance
SC: May be affected by rheumatological conditions and refer pain to distant areas
AC Joint Clinical Relevance
AC: Dislocation of this joint common in athletes
Sternal Angle (Angle of Louis) Location
Junction between the manubrium and sternal body. Angle palpable as slight elevation; serves as a landmark for locating the 2nd rib & T4-T5 intervertebral disk.
Infrasternal Angle Location
Formed in front of thoracic cage by the cartilages of the 10th, 9th, 8th & 7th ribs, which ascend on either side
Sternal Angle (Angle of Louis) Clinical Relevance
Used to guide stethoscope placement when auscultating heart and lung sounds.
Infrasternal Angle Clinical Relevance
Used as a reference point for CPR sternal
compressions. Used to identify ECG chest lead attachments.
Olecrannon Location
Elbow! Curved bony process on the proximal, posterior end of the ulna
Olecrannon Clinical Relevance
Site of olecranon bursitis and landmark for
location of ulnar nerve.
Iliac crest Location
Most prominent part of the ilium, the largest of the 3 bones that make up the pelvis. At level of umbilicus; corresponds to ~ L3-L4 lumbar vertebrae.
Iliac crest Clinical Relevance
Commonly used bone graft donor. Site of bone marrow harvests for bone marrow
transplantation.
Greater Trochanter Location
Upper thigh. Large bony eminence at the proximal and lateral side of femur
