A

Claims that forgetting occurs when two memories become conflicted/confused/mixed w each other
More likely when matières is similar
Less likely when gap between instances of learning

AO3: Interference Theory

A

+ theory has practical applications. Students should be aware of this theory, so don’t revise similar content/subjects at same time as interference more likely
- the loss of info during interference may only be temporary , so not a true explanation for forgetting, because still in LTM
+ McGeoch + McDonald - retroactive interference - participants given list of words to learn until they could recall 100% accuracy. Given new set of words synonyms/acronyms. W similar meanings had worse recall. Learning second list w similar meanings caused retroactive interference
