L6 - Joint Classifications Flashcards
Synovial joint features
Complex association of tissues and structures, movement determined by bone ends.
Synovial joint structures
Bone ends, articular cartilage, joint capsule, joint cavity, synovial membrane, and ligaments.
Hyaline cartilage
Articular cartilage; covers bone where they articulate, smooth frictionless movement
Joint capsule
Outer layer of DFCT, secretes synovial fluid
Joint capsule
Holds bone together, can change due to the support needed
Capsular ligaments
Continuous of the joint capsule, present where support is needed.
Collateral ligaments
Occur on either side of
Intracapsular ligaments
Within the capsule, additional bands of DFCT that internally hold bones together
Cruciate ligaments
Cross over each-other
Fibrocartilaginous pads
Made of fibrocartilage, that fill in space, cushion, and deepen articulation
ROM determined by
Bone end shape, ligament location and end, body surface contact, muscles
Types of synovial joints
Plane, hinge, pivot, condylar, ellipsoid, saddle, ball and socket
