Q

list all nomenclatures of peptides.

A

dipeptide: 2 amino acids linked together

tripeptide : 3 amino acids

oligopeptide : up to 20 AA

Polypeptide: 21-50 AA

proteins : more than 50

although some polypeptides have more than 50 amino acids its best to reserve the term protein to only the final functioning product .

Q

proteins can be 1.) monomeric 2.) dimeric 3.)trimeric 4.)tetrameric 5.) oligomeric or 6.)multimeric . explain what these terms mean

A

monomeric is a protein with only one polypeptide chain

dimeric is one with 2

trimeric is 3 polypeptide chains

tetrameric is 4 polypeptide chains

oligomeric means the protein has up to 10 polypeptide chains

and finally multimeric means it has more than 10 polypeptide chains
