L16: Renal Function and Structure Flashcards
1
Q
What are the 2 main functions of urinary system?
A
- Regulates:
- Plasma ionic composition
- Plasma volume
- Plasma osmolarity
- Plasma pH - Removes metabolic waste products and foreign substances from plasma
2
Q
What some other function of the kidneys?
A
- Secretes erythropoietin and renin–> For RBC production and enzyme secretion of renin
- Converts 25-hydroxyvitamin D to calcitriol
- Produces glucose from glycerol and certain amino acids during fasting
