What is this injury classified as?
What does it involve?
What should be checked?
Le Fort I
- Transverse fracture crossing both maxilla (Floating palate)
- Check Maxillary Sinus and Inferior Nasal Septum
What is this injury classified as?
What does it involve?
What should be checked?
Le Fort II
- Inferior orbital rim is involved
- Nasal bone and lacrimal bone affected …check tear ducts and infraorbital foramen
What is this injury classified as?
What does it involve?
What should be checked?
Le Fort III
- Involves zygoma (whereas I and II do not) - nerves that control intraocular muscles
- Check superior orbital fissure
Where is Parotid Gland Duct (____________ Duct) most vulnerable?
The parotid gland duct (Stenson’s Duct) is Most vulnerable at ZONE B where it travels over the masseter
What is Frey Syndrome and what test is used to diagnose it?
Auriculotemporal nerve: parasymptehtically supplies the parotid nerve
If Parotic gland is damaged, during nerve regrowth attempting to re-innervate the parotic sometimes synapse onto sweat glands instead: Sweat glands have a sympathetic CHOLINERGIC signaling => when a person smells food, chews they then sweat on the cheek
Where do fascial nerves emerge from?
Stylomastoid Foramen
Muscles of dogs that enable puppy eyes?
Levator anguli oculi medialis
Retractor anguli oculi lateralis
XRAY view ideal for examining the Zygomatic Arch?
Water’s Radiographic View
What do we analyze on Water’s View when analyzing zygomatic bone damage?
Three Lines of Dolan
- Inferior Orbital Rim
- Zygomatic Bone
- Zygomatic Arch
3 Major Nerves that innervate the Ear?
Where to inject to anesthetize?
Nerves that innervate the Ear:
- Auriculotemporal
- Great Auricular Nerve
- Lesser Occipital Nerve
Where does the Inferior Alveolar Nerve enter the jaw?
Mandibular Foramen
