L11.3 Dental anatomy Flashcards
1
Q
Oro facial injection
A
- Correct administration of local anaesthetic to prevent pain during treatment
- Complicated → very vascular
- Putting adrenaline into anaesthetic
- Vasoconstrictor → to prolong anaesthetics and decrease bleeding
2
Q
Injection types
A
- Infiltration
- Block
- Intra-osseous
- Intra-ligamental
3
Q
Maxillary and Mandibular N block
A
- Maxilla blocks
- → useful for numbing face → for gum surgery
- Mandibular N block
- → anaesthetise all the teeth on that side + lower lip
- Blocks above the mandibular canal → blocks INF alvelor N and mandibular N
- If injected too deeply → and block parotid gland → anaesthetise the facial N as well
4
Q
Forensic dentistry
A
- Highly individual
- Teeth very durable and especially fire resistant
- Many people have dental record → able to identify
- More accurate identification for younger age individuals
5
Q
Age assessment complexities
A
- variable
- Beyond 14-15 → few skeletal or dental development markers
- Genetic/environmental factors affecting development
6
Q
Cranio-facial superimposition
A
- Determine who someone is by the shape of the skull
- But quite variable
7
Q
Bitemarks
A
- Not a good indication
- Skin changes shape of the bitemark depending on how it was bit
8
Q
Face trauma analysis
A
- Force delivered to the face
- How many blows, direction of force, what was used to deliver the blow
- May determine child abuse
9
Q
Post-mortem CT imaging
A
- Body changes after death → makes imaging difficult
- Used for:
- Bleeding, bone ballistics, foreign bodies, fluid collection, gas, gross pathology in viscera
