What is Hegar’s sign?
Softening of the lower segment of the uterus (occurs around 6-8 weeks gestation)
What is Goodell’s sign?
Softening of the cervix (around 6-8 weeks of gestation)
What is ballottement?
Method of diagnosing pregnancy. Uterus is pushed with a finger to feel whether a fetus moves away and returns again
What is considered late preterm?
A pregnancy that ends between 34 & 36 6/7 week of gestation
What does multigravida mean?
A woman who has had two or more pregnancies
What does multipara mean?
A woman who has completed two or more pregnancies to 20 or more weeks of gestation
What does nulligravida mean?
Woman who has never been pregnant
What does nullipara mean?
Woman who has not completed a pregnancy longer than 20 weeks
What does parity mean?
Number of pregnancies where fetus has reached 20 wk gestation when they are born (not the number of fetuses)
What is considered a post term pregnancy?
Pregnancy that goes beyond 42 weeks
What is considered a preterm delivery?
A pregnancy that has reached 20 wk of gestation by ends before completion of 37 wk of gestation
What does primigravida mean?
Woman who is pregnant for the first time
What does primipara mean?
Woman who has completed one pregnancy with a fetus that reached 20 wk of gestation
What does term mean?
Pregnancy from the completion of wk 37 to end of wk 42 gestation
What does viability mean? When does this usually happen?
Capacity to live outside the uterus
Rare for a fetus to survive before 22 to 24 wk of gestation and weigh less than 500 g
