Kura cloud Liver Flashcards
What is the portal triad?
-Branch of the hepatic portal vein
-Branch of the hepatic artery
-Bile duct:
Bile that is produced by the hepatocytes drains into tiny canals called bile canaliculi, which eventually coalesce with the cholangiocyte-lined bile ducts located around the lobule perimeter,
Blood flows through to the centre of the lobule, and bile flows toward the perimeter
What is in bile
Cholestrol
Bile salts
Bilirubin and drug metabolites
Bile is an aqueous solution so lots of WATER and OTHER SOLUTES.
What are the functions of bile?
- Cholestrol homeostasis
- Absorption and digestion
- Toxin excretion
The enterohepatic circulation
This term describes the way that substances can cycle between the gut and liver by continuous reabsorption in the gut, carriage in portal blood to liver, and hepatocyte secretion into bile canaliculi, to be secreted (in bile) via the common bile duct.
