Knee Joint Flashcards
name the knee joints
tibofemoral & patellofemoral
when can the knee rotate
during flexion
when is knee most stable
extension
main support of knee?
cruciate ligaments, menisci & co-lateral ligaments
devil’s triad?
medial colateral, medial meniscus & ACL
when is knee susceptible to injury
in flexion and roation
which condyles of the femur and tibia are longer?
medial
when are all the ligaments most tight?
full extension
what is b/w lateral col-lateral and lateral meniscus
popliteus tendon
where are the deficiencies in the knee capsule
For the communicating bursae. above patella suprapatellar bursa. Posteriorly for popliteus tendon and semimembranosus bursa
what is the pes anserinous?
muscle insertion that look like gooses foot. Sartorius, Gracilis, Bursa, SemiTendinous(Say Grace Before Tea)
role of cruciate ligaments
ACL limits anterior displacement of tibia in felxion. PCL limits posterior displacement
when is PCL prone to injury
bumper bar impact, fall on flexed knee
relationship of cruciate ligaments and joint capsule
intracapsular but extra-synovial
which meniscus more commonly injured and why?
medial - longer, horns further apart, less mobile (attachment to MCL)
