Increase femoral anteversion
More common in female than male
Obese children can develop this
ACL tear/injury
Female>Male
Injury with popping sounds with subsequent pain and swelling at knee, feels instability
+Anterior drawer and lachman’s
PCL tear/injury
Uncommon bc it is the largest and strongest of knee ligaments
Usually occurs with combination of other bulk ligament injury
MCL injury
Most common ligament injury
+ Valgus test with knee at 0 and 30 deg flexion
LCL injury
Least common injury
Blow to medial or anteromedial aspect of leg with resulting lateral or posterolateral knee pain
Swelling, locking, and knee giving out under stress
+ Varus test with leg at full extension and 30 deg
Meniscal injury
Joint line tenderness, joint effusion/swelling, catching, pain with certain movements, inability to squat/kneel
+ McMurray, Apley Grind
Osgood Schlatter
Osteochondritis of tibial tubercle
Caused by repetitive strain and tearing of the secondary ossification center on the tibial tubercle, forms a callous that appears as a swelling on the tibial tubercle
Ottawa Knee rule and Pittsburgh rule are both
Sensitive
Plantar Fasciitis
Plantar or calcaneal pain on walking or hard surfaces
Pain with first steps in the morning or after period of inactivity
Pain with passive dorsiflexion
Morton Neuroma
Pain b/w the metatarsal heads from the plantar digital nerve, most commonly affecting the 3rd web space
+ Mulder’s sign, clicking sensation
Gout
Swollen erythematous tender joint on exam
High serum uric acid levels
