Apley’s Compression
Patient Prone
Knee Flexed to 90
Downward force is applied through the heel along with internal and external rotation of the tibia
Positive: Pain = Meniscus Tear
Apley’s Distraction

Pull upward on medial malleolus
Positive: Pain - ligament or capsule injury
Wipe
Patient Supine
wipe swelling medial to lateral to check for joint effusion
Positive: Wave of fluid
Fluctuation
Compress skin around knee
Positive: Feel synovial fluid
