Knee Flashcards
Where is the Tibial Tuberosity?
Is a superficial knob located distal to the patella on the shaft of the tibia.
Where is The Patella?
Located on the anterior surface of the knee.
Superficial and round with an apex that points distally.
Largest sesamoid bone in the body.
Where is the Shaft of the Tibia?
Runs superficially along the anterior leg.
From the tibial tuberosity to the medial malleolus its edges and flat surface are easily palpable.
Where is the Head of the Fibula?
Located on the lateral side of the leg.
Sometimes protrudes visably.
Where is the Tibial Plateaus?
The medial and lateral plateaus are located on the proximal end of the tibia.
Situated inside the knee joint, the plateaus can not be palpated.
Edges locates superficially on either side of the patellar ligament are easily accessible.
Where is the Pes Anserinus Attachment?
Flat area medial to the tibial tuberosity/
Three tendons of the thigh- sartorius, gracillis, and semitendinosus, converge at the medial knee to form the larger pes anserinus tendon, which attaches to the proximal, medial shaft of the tibia.
Where are the edges of Femoral Condyles?
Located on either side of the patella.
two large, round femoral condyles are mostly inaccessible, however edges are more easily accessible.
Where are the Epicondyles of the Femur?
Lateral epicondyle is a bald, knobby area located on the lateral surface of the knee.
Medial epicondyle is deep to the tendon of the sartorius, distal to the vastus medialis muscle.
Where is the Adductor Tubercle?
Located proximal to the medial epicondyle, between the belly of the vastus medialis and the hamstring tendons.
Often tender to the touch.
