Knee Flashcards
Knee Flexion
Testing position: Supine, starting with hip and knee in extension; towel roll under ankle
Stabilization: allow hip to flex during the motion, but stabilize femur to prevent rotation, abduction or adduction
axis: lateral epicondyle of femur
SA: lateral midline of femur/greater trochanter
MA: Lateral midline of fibula using lateral malleoli
AASO: 0-135
Knee extension
testing position: supine same as starting position for flexion
Stabilization: stabilize femur to maintain a neutral hip position; do not allow hip to flex
Axis: lateral epicondyle
SA: greater trochanter
MA: lateral midline of fibular using lateral malleoli
AASO: 0-10
Quadriceps femoris
Position:
- AG: sitting, legs off table, folded towel under knee
- GM: side lying on limb to be tested, hip extended, knee full flexed
Movement: knee extension
Resistance: anterior leg, proximal to ankle
Hamstring - biceps femoris, semimebranosus, semitendinosus
Position:
- AG: prone
- GM: side lying, on side to be tested, knee and hip fully extended
Movement: knee flexion, tibia laterally rotated for biceps femoris and medially rotated for semitendinosus and semimembranosus
Resistance: posteriorly, proximal to ankle
