Hip ROM and MMT Flashcards
Hip extension:
Testing position: prone; and knee extended
Stabilization: pelvis (ASIS) to prevent anterior tilting
Axis: Greater Trochanter
SA: Mid axillary line/lateral midline of pelvis
MA: Lateral epicondyle
AAOS: 0-20º
Hip flexion
Testing position: prone; and knee extended
Stabilization: pelvis (PSIS) to prevent posterior tilting
Axis: Greater Trochanter
SA: Mid axillary line/lateral midline of pelvis
MA: Lateral epicondyle
AAOS: 0-120º
Abduction hip
Testing position: supine; knee extended and hip in neutral flexion/extension, and rotation
Stabilization: anterior pelvis, (iliac crest) to prevent lateral lilt (rise)
Axis: ASIS
SA: Line from both ASIS
MA: Patella (midline)
AAOS:0-45º
Hip adduction
Testing position: supine; knee extended and hip in neutral flexion/extension, and rotation; abduct the contralateral hip
Stabilization: anterior pelvis, (iliac crest) to prevent lateral lilt (drop)
Axis: ASIS
SA: Line from both ASIS
MA: Patella (midline)
AAOS:0-30º
Medial hip rotation
Testing position: sitting hip at 90º flexion and 0º abduction;
Stabilization: pelvis (iliac crest) to prevent a lateral tilt
Axis: patella (anterior aspect)
SA: perpendicular to the flood
MA: Anterior midline midway between malleoli
AASO: 0-45
Lateral hip rotation
Testing position: sitting hip at 90º flexion and 0º abduction;
Stabilization: pelvis (iliac crest) to prevent a lateral tilt
Axis: patella (anterior aspect)
SA: perpendicular to the flood
MA: Anterior midline midway between malleoli
AASO: 0-45
Iliopsoas
Position: AG- sitting, knees flexed
GM- sidling on slide of LE to be tested, hip extended, knee flexed
Movement: hip flexion
Resistance: anterior distal thigh
Sartorius
Position:
-AG: sitting, knees flexed
-GM: supine, heel of test leg on opposite ankle, slide heel up shin of opposite leg

Resistance: distal thigh and medial malleolus
Gluteus Maximus
Position:
-AG: prone., with test in leg in full lateral rotation, knee extended
-GM: no separate test
Movement: extend hip while maintaining full ER
