- 4 year truce agreed - lasted until 1189

Baldwin died 1187 - left no clear heir with mother Sybilla and Isabella rivals to throne

Pretended to divorce to Guy to take throne - remarried him
- gained support from Humphrey of Toron and grand masters of Templars

Allied with Saladin against Guy - allowed muslims safe passage through lands if they would help him be placed on throne
Spark for war
Reynald of Chatillon attacked muslim caravan crossing from Cairo to Damascus - didn’t honour truce made with Saladin - failed to make restitution for his crime when instructed to by Guy
Reconciliation
In response to threat against Jerusalem - Raymond allied with Guy
- Saladin’s son attacked lands in Galilee - Templars and Hospitiallars summoned to defend Jerusalem - approx 150 knights and 300 cavalry faced 7000 strong muslim army - christians wiped out
