This is God’s authority and rule (not a place)
The Kingdom of God began at Jesus’ birth.
It was established through the resurrection.
It grows in the present day.
It will be completed at the end of time.

The Kingdom of God is perfect and requires these 3 things.
Justice - Christians should live in a way that respects the rights of others and change systems that allow for injustice. This helps spread the Kingdom
Peace - Christians should support all efforts to establish world peace and harmony. This will lead to the peace of the Kingdom on Earth.
Reconciliation - Christians should break down the barriers that exist between people. This helps the Kingdom grow.

The SVP is the St. Vincent de Paul Society
A charity founded by a group of Catholics in France to directly assist the poor locally through practical means.
CAFOD, standing for Catholic Agency for Overseas Development, are the official charity for the Catholic Church.
They provide emergency aid globally but mainly aim for people to be more self sufficient.
Through this, Catholics follow Jesus’ commands to help and show love to those in need.

Pilgrimage and token pilgrimage

A pilgrimage is a journey with a spiritual purpose. It is to strengthen and renew faith, coming closer to God. It is also believed life is a pilgrimage to heaven.
Catholics can take a token pilgrimage along the stations of the cross during lent. It is a form of dramatised prayer, there is reflection at every stage to share in his suffering with prayer.
Jerusalem - Where Jesus died
Rome - The centre of the Catholic Church,
Lourdes – a town where a young girl so visions of Mary. The water there is belief to have healing powers.
Walsingham – Village in Norfolk which contains the catholic national shrine for England, said to be resembling Mary’s house.
Mission and evangelism in film

In Les Mis, the bishop urges thief to use the money to do good this shows good action, showing love, inspiring others to do the same. Bishop also lied to the guard to send the thief free, this shows doing the right thing in might involve breaking the rules.
In the mission, the priests tried to convert the local people and are attacked. This shows Mission evangelism require a total commitment to God even in hardship.

Four key documents illustrate the Catholic churches approach in the modern world. This was determined at the second Vatican Council
Dei Verbum - Deals with the importance of the bible, writing that some parts are not to be taken seriously.
Sacrosanctum Concilium - Allows Catholics to hold mass in their local language, emphasising that people should take more part in mass.
Lumen Gentium - Stresses that all members of the Church have an important role to play, emphasising that the Church moves forward with society.
Gaudium et Spes - Writes that the Church should not be separate from modern society.

A characteristic particular to the Catholic Church
One - The Church is one united body.
Holy - The Catholic Church is guided by the Holy Spirit.
Catholic - Means universal. Beliefs are consistent in Catholics worldwide.
Apostolic - The Churches teachings are based on the 12 apostles. Their successors guide the Church today.
