A

Adv: Restores concentrations of substances in the blood
Disadv: Has to be carried out at regular intervals

How does a dialysis machine work?

A

1) Dialysis fluid (containing same concentrations of substances as the blood) enters and these substances enter blood
2) Blood flows between partially permeable membranes
2) Urea passes out from blood into the dialysis fluid

What are the advantages and disadvantages of a kidney transplant?

A

Adv: Can get a healthy kidney
Disadv: Can be rejected because antibodies attack the antigens on the kidney (recognised as foreign)
