What does Independent (I) mean in terms of task performance?
Performs task independent and safely with nil assistance necessary, may require a gait aid or assistive device to do so.
What is the definition of Supervision (S/V)?
Requires supervision / prompting to ensure safety when performing task.
What does Standby Assistance (SB A) entail?
May intermittently require assistance to perform task safely; must remain close to patient throughout entire task and be prepared to either guide or steady.
In Minimum Assistance (Min A), what percentage of the task does the patient perform?
Patient performs 75% or more of task (i.e. most).
What is the range of task performance for Moderate Assistance (Mod A)?
Patient performs 50-74% of task (i.e. more than half).
What does Maximal Assistance (Max A) indicate about task performance?
Patient performs less than 49% of the task (i.e. less than half).
What does NWB stand for and what does it mean?
NWB: non-weight bearing; no weight allowed on limb.
Define TWB.
TWB: touch weight bearing; small amount of weight allowed on limb (i.e. as if walking on egg shells and trying not to break them).
What is the meaning of PWB?
PWB: partial weight bearing; allowed about half body weight on limb – remainder of weight should be on other limbs.
What does WBAT allow regarding weight bearing?
WBAT: weight bearing as tolerated; allowed to place as much weight as pain allows on limb.
What is the definition of FWB?
FWB: full weight bearing; no restrictions on weight bearing.
