Recurring = knows limited number of letters & uses them repeatedly
Directional = left to right
Generating = realises there are a limited number of letters but these can be used in different ways
Inventory = paclks knowledge together into words he/ she knows
5 functions of writing
1. Practical = reminders, notes
2. Job related = medical assessment
3. Stimulating = organise thoughts logically
4. Social = invitation, letter, thank you note
5. Therapeutic = express felings
What is analytic phonics?
- look for patterns in words & remember words with same spelling patterns
- use rhyme to help learn other words with similar spelling patterns
What is syntheytic phonics?
- learning the symbols
- 44 phonemes
- jolly phonics (actions alongside the phonemes)
What are phonics?
teaching the relationship between letters and sounds - learn sounds for individ. letters and blend them to read words
Invented spelling
children spell words how they sound to them > understanding of phonics
Symbolisation
develop their understanding of how symbols (i.e., letters) correspond to spoken sounds
Genre awareness
Throughout primary school, children are exposed to different text types (narrative, persuasive, informative), broadening their understanding of language’s varied purposes
