internal migration
The movement of population within a country.
natural change
The outcome of the balance of births and deaths in a population. natural increase occurs when births are more than deaths and natural decrease occurs when deaths are higher than births.
ethnicity
The cultural heritage shared by a group of people that sets them apart from others including racial ancestry, a sentence of history, language and religion.
sense of place
An overarching impression that encompasses the general way in which people feel about places.
social isolation
A complete or nearly lack of contact with people and society.
counter urbanisation
the movement of people and employment from major cities to smaller settlements and rural places located beyond the city or to more distant smaller cities and towns.
suburbanisation
the onward spread of the built-up area often at lower densities compared with older parts of a town or city. The decentralisation is encouraged by transport improvements.
assimilation
the process by which people of diverse ethnic backgrounds interact and intermix, free of constraints in the life of the larger community or nation.
social housing
provides accommodation at affordable rents for people on lower incomes.
perception
an individual or group’s picture of reality resulting from their assessment of information received.
demographic
means population or some aspect of it such as its size, rate of change, density and composition.
ethnic segregation
the voluntary or enforced separation of people of different cultures or nationalities.
gentrification
a change in social status where former working-class inner-city areas are increasingly occupied and renewed by the middle class.
low-income household
those earning 60% or less of the median household income after housing costs have been deducted.

the ideas, beliefs, customers and social behavior of a group or society
