Initial infection leads to the production of IgA, IgG and IgM antibodies. IgG remains high for many years after initial infection and may provide some immunity to repeated infection. The IgM response usually falls after several months
Immunocompromised and pregnant women require prophylaxis with zoster immune globulin (ZIG) and treatment with aciclovir
