Distribution Kawasaki disease?
A
Medium vessel vasculitis with predilection for coronary arteries

What is the aetiology of KD?
A
Unknown. Likely triggered by infection.

Peak age KD?
A
3mo - 5y

What are the diagnostic criteria of KD?
A
Fever persisting 5d+ AND
4 of:
-1. Bilat conjunctival injection
-2. Red injected, fissured lips, strawberry tongue, injected pharynx
-3. Peripheral changes (oedema or desquamation)
-4. Polymorphous rash
-5. Cervical lymphadenopathy (1.5cm+)

What is atypical KD?
A
Less than 5/6 criteria BUT coronary artery involvement

Mx KD?
A
- High dose aspirin while febrile
- Low dose in subacute phase until platelets normalise (longer if coronary involvement)
- IVIG within 10d onset reduces coronary aneurysm formation
- Echo at diagnosis and 3 months

What are the complications of KD?
A
-coronary artery vasculitis with aneurysm formation (20-25% untreated); under 5% with IVIG
