KAFO Flashcards
what is KAFO
consist of shoe, foundation, ankle control, knee control and superstructure
discuss off-set joint
hinged posterior to midline of leg
pt’s weight falls anterior to joint = stabs knee in ext during early stance
does not affect knee flexion and joint can flex
mech axis post to anatomical axis = inc stab
discuss drop-ring lock
when pt stands and knee is fully ext - ring drops = prevents bending
manual control and uses hands
dapat walang flexion contracture since only locks at full ext
discuss PAWL lock c bail release
provides simulataneous locking of both uprights
pt unlocks by pulling upward on post bail
pag tumama baka mag unlock
locks auto at full ext
discuss separated knee joint
pt that cant achieve full knee ext d/y flexion contracture
discuss knee cap
applies post directed force that complements anterior forces from back of shoe and thigh band
may restrict sitting
discuss frontal plane control
plastic calf shells to correct genu valgum or varum
valgum: medial portion of shells extend proximally to apply laterally directed force
discuss superstrucutre
proximal thigh band - weight relieving
if distal limb cant tolerate FWB thighband can be shaped to form WB brim
quadrilateral or ischial brim - locks knee joint
