secularity (separation of system from religion), divide between Israelis and Palestinians, key is changes in rhetoric (which is closed) and political culture (peace is used to refer to peace only for the Israelis) among both cultures, must recognize both histories and link them contrapuntally (linked to show full history), suggestions: acknowledging both narratives as connected, recognition highlights a composite identity based on shared history, irreconcilabilities, and antinomies, rights should be based on a common, secular citizenship, and need for long-term education with special emphasis on narratives of either side
