judaism is a what religion?
monotheistic - only believe in one god
what four characteristics does the Almighty possess? (nature of the Almighty)
one, creator, judge and lawgiver
what does hashem mean?
another name for god
what are the three ways that jews connect with shekhinah?
through study, prayer and worship
why is studying important for jews when it comes to shekhinah?
because by studying the talmud and tenakh is seen as an act of worship and hashem is always present during worship therefore by studying, the shekhinah is present.
why is praying as part of a minyan important for jews?
because god is always present when a minyan takes place (the shekhinah)
what does messiah mean?
the “anointed one”.
what will the messiah be like (orthodox)?
a powerful human, a charismatic leader, a great military leader, great political insight and will rebuild the temple and re-establish jewish law.
what will the messianic age be like (reform)?
a time of peace that all humans have to work together to achieve.
when will the messianic age come?
there will be a possibility for a messiah in every generation, some believe it has a set date and others believe it will happen when they need god the most (e.g the holocaust).
what is a covenant?
an everlasting agreement between two or more people, for jews this is god and man.
what does brit olam mean?
means “everlasting covenant”, which shows jews that god will not break the covenant.
who was moses?
a prophet that god chose to give the ten commandments and the mitzvot to.
how did god reveal himself to moses?
through a burning bush
what did god instruct moses to do?
god told moses to free the israelites from the egyptians (he sent the ten plagues).
