Joints of Upper Limbs Flashcards
Articular Disc
Separates two compartments of SC joint. Firmly attached to the anterior and posterior SC ligaments
Sternoclavicular joint
Synovial articulation between the sternal end of the clavicle and the manubrium of the sternum and 1st costal cartilage.
Saddle type joint that functions as a ball and socket
Joint Capsule
Surronds the sternoclavicular joint, including the epiphysis at the sternal end of the clavicle.
The interclavicular ligament
Strengthens the joint capsule superiorly. Extends from the sternal end of one clavicle to the sternal end of the other clavicle. Also attached to the superior border of mandibrum
Costoclavicular ligament
anchors the inferior surface of sternal end of the clavicle to the 1st rib and its costal cartilage, limiting elevation of the pectoral gridle.
Acromioclavicular Joint
plane synovial articulation. Located 2 to 3 cm from the “point” of the shoulder formed by the lateral part of the acromion of the scapula.
Coracoclavicular Ligament
Strong, extra articular, located several centimeters from the AC joint, which anchors the clavicle to the coracoid process of the scapula.
Conoid ligament
attached to the root of the coracoid process. Its wide attachment is to the conid tubecle on the inferior surface of the clavicle.
Trapezoid ligament
Horizontal- attaches to superior surface of the coracoid process and extends laterally and poteriorly to the trapezoid line on the inferior surface of the clavicle.
