Joint Injections Topo Flashcards
Injection point for distal MC nerve blocks (eq)?
4 injections – next to distal part of each splint bones in Eq
Which joint is used for high digital block?
Fetlock joint
Injection into digital sheath?
Behind (palmar aspect) of m. interosseous m. at level of proximal sesamoid bone
Injection into carpal sheath?
Palmar aspect; 10cm distal to accessory carpal bone; behind m. interosseous.
CANINE: Shoulder joint injection?
In front or behind the tendon of origin of m. infraspinatus
CANINE: Stifle injection?
Cross btw patellar ligament and lateral collateral lig, above meniscus and behind long digital extensor tendon
CANINE: Carpal joint injection?
Dorsal aspect, flex carpus
- Radio-carpal junction: 3 sites
- both sides of the ext carpi radialis tendon
- btw the common and lateral digital tendons - Intercarpal junction: 2 sites
- both sides of the ext carpi radialis tendon
CANINE: Which tendon runs under the lateral collateral lig. Of stifle?
Popliteal tendon
EQUINE: Shoulder joint injection site?
2 joint cavities:
- In front of m. infraspinatus tendon (over the greater tubercle)
- From deltoid tuberosity upwards (up to the bursa of m. biceps brachii tendon)
EQUINE: Stifle injection?
2 injection points:
- Lateral: joint recess of extensor groove (recessus subextensorius)
- Medial: btw medial and intermediate patellar ligaments
EQUINE: Fetlock joint injection?
Through dorsal recess lat or med to extensor tendon, OR through palmar recess (better) between cannon bone and interosseous m. at end of splint bones
EQUINE: Tarsal joint injection?
2 injection points:
- Tibio-tarsal joint (tarsocrural joint): Dorsal-medial aspect btw. Tibia and talus (communicates with proximal intertarsal joint).
- Tarsal-metatarsal joint: Medial btw the central tarsal bone and T3 OR Lateral btw. T4 and splint bone (communicates with distal inter tarsal in 30% of horses)
- distal intertarsal if necessary
