What is job analysis?
A
Process of gathering information on all the jobs in the organization using interviews, questionnaires, observation, diaries/logs, electronic monitoring
then organize info into a database then use the info to make org and HR decisions

What does ‘exempt’ mean?
A
exempt from overtime because they are a full time yearly salary earner rather than an hourly wage earner

What parts are included in a job description?
A
- job summary
- job duties (what do, shows skills/competencies, check for experience)
- working conditions

What parts are included in a job specification?
A
JOB SPEC IS MORE EMPLOYEE FOCUSED
- skills factors (education, experience, communication, etc.)
- effort factors (physical, mental demands - for BFORs)

What are competencies? Types?
A
= The knowledge, skills, abilities, attitude, and behaviors that identify a successful employee. they can be learned!
Types:
- core competencies: essential ones for entire org, needed for all jobs so can move around
- functional comps: necessary for all jobs in job family (ex: production)
- job comps: necessary for one specific job (ex: widget production worker)
