Majority have residency status, growing minority has Israeli citizenship

They have similar blue Israeli identity cards and a lassiez-passer issued by Jordan and UN
What is the political participation of residents of East Jerusalem?
Governed by Israeli laws, can vote in the municipal election, cannot run for elections, majority of them choose not to vote
Are resident of East Jerusalem restricted movement?
Can move freely throughout Israel and WB, most choose not to fly out of Ben Gurion airport, fly through Jordan or Ramon airport instead

No status in Israel, citizens of PA

A green PA identity card, Palestinian passport or lassiez passer

Can vote/run in Palestinian elections, different areas are governed by different laws (WB=Israel, Gaza=Hamas)

Geographic separation causes them not interact with each other languages, no need to learn Arabic for Jews and Hewbrew for Arabs

One of the first opportunities Jews and Arabs have to interact, most don’t have the opportunity

Over 100 organizations working towards aspects of a shared society
How does the state view PAI?
View the as the national minority, Fear of disloyalty since some identify with Palestinians in WB, Gaza and active enemies of the state, challenges Israel’s identity
What is the state’s perspective?
Jews are Indigenous to the land = the creation of settlements since Jews have maintained a continuous presence on the land since antiquity
What is the PAI perspective?
PAI are Indigenous to the land = superior claims to settler immigrants
How does PAI view the state?
Minorities within a minority, torn between civic and national identity, hard finding a balance between Palestinzation and Israelization
