Jesus the Miracle Worker Flashcards
Outline the man with the evil spirit miracle
Jesus was in Nazareth on the Sabbath day and began preaching to the people in the synagogue. The people thought that Jesus taught with far more authority than the religious leaders. Then, a man with an evil spirit entered the synagogue and began to shout, “What do you want with us Jesus? Are you here to destroy us? I know who you are, you are God’s messenger. Jesus commanded the spirit to be quiet and to come out of the man. The spirit shook the man hard, made a loud scream and then came out of the man. The people were amazed because they did not know how Jesus had the power to control evil spirits. News about this miracle spread quickly throughout Jerusalem.
Outline the miracle, “The man with a dreaded skin disease”
A man suffering from a dreaded skin disease went to Jesus, knelt down and begged him, “If you want to you can make me clean.” Jesus felt pity for the man and so stretched out his hand and touched him. He said, “I do want to, be clean.” At once, the disease left the man and he was clean. Jesus told the man to not tell anyone what had happened, to go to the priest to prove that he was clean and to make the same sacrifice as Moses. However, the man did not obey Jesus and told everyone what had happened. Now, Jesus could not go into the town publicly without being recognised.
Outline the story of Jesus healing many people
Jesus and his disciples, including James and John left the synagogue and went to the home of Simon and Andrew. Simon’s mother-in-law had a fever and was very ill and once Jesus came into the house, he was told about her. Jesus went over to Simon’s mother-in-law, took her by the hand and helped her get up. At once, the fever left her and she began to wait on them. Jesus waited until the sun had set to heal the people that were outside the house. He drove out demons and healed people from their illnesses.
Recall the miracle of the paralysed man
In Capernaum, Jesus was in a house teaching to the people. Then four men carrying a paralysed man came to the house to try and get to Jesus. They could not enter through the door as there was so many people, and so they went up to the roof and made an opening. They lowered the paralysed man through this opening to Jesus. Jesus said to the paralysed man, “My son, your sins are forgiven,” because he saw how much faith the paralysed man had. The teacher’s of the law became angry with Jesus as they believed only God could forgive sins, and so Jesus was being blasphemous. Jesus said, “Why do you think such things.” Then he told the paralysed man to get up, pick up his mat and go, and the paralysed man got up, picked up his mat and hurried away. Everyone was amazed and started to praise God.
Outline what happened in the miracle the man with the paralysed hand
On the Sabbath day, Jesus went to the synagogue where there was a man with a paralysed hand. Some Pharisees were also there because they wanted to accuse Jesus of healing someone on the Sabbath day. Jesus told the man to come up to the front and he asked the people, “What does our Law allow us to do on the Sabbath? To help or to harm? To save someone’s life or destroy it? Jesus became really angry at the people but also he began to feel sorry for them as they were so stubborn and wrong. Jesus told the man to stretch out his hand and once the man did this, he was healed. The Pharisees left and began planning a way to kill Jesus
Outline the story of the woman with the haemorrhage
There was a woman who was suffering from a haemorrhage for twelve years that had been seen by many doctors but her condition never improved. She began to think that if she touched Jesus’ cloak, she would be healed. So she decided to do this and immediately, she was healed and Jesus felt some of his power drain out of him. Jesus began asking people who had touched his cloak and once the woman realised what had happened she told Jesus the whole truth. Jesus then said to the woman, “My daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace and be free from your troubles.
Outline the story of Jarius’ Daughter
At the lakeside, a large crowd gathered around Jesus, including Jarius who was an official in the local synagogue. He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and begged, “My daughter is very ill. Please come by and place your hands on her so that she will live.” Jesus went with Jarius and many people followed him. Then some messengers said that Jarius’ daughter had already died. Jesus paid no attention to what they said and he said, “Don’t be afraid, only believe.” He only took with him Peter, James and John. Once Jesus arrived at Jarius’ house, he saw many people crying and he asked them why they were crying and what all the confusion was about. He said that the child was not dead but was sleeping. The people laughed at him and then he went to the girl, took her by the hand and said, “Talitha koum” meaning, little girl, I tell you to get up.” She got up at once and began walking around. She was only twelve. Everyone was completely amazed but Jesus told them not to tell anyone what had happened
Outline the Story of the Boy with an evil spirit
Once Jesus joined the rest of the disciples, some of the crowd and the teachers of the law were arguing with each other. Jesus asked his disciples what they were arguing about and then a man from the crowd said, “Teacher, my son has an evil spirit which makes him stiff all over, grit his teeth and foam at the mouth. I have asked your disciples to help but they could not.” Jesus said to his disciples, “How long must I be with you? Why do I have to put up with you.” Then Jesus asked the man to bring his son to him. Once the man brought his son to Jesus, the spirit saw Jesus which sent the boy into a fit and made him fall to the ground. Jesus asked the boys father how long the boy had had the spirit and the man said since he was born. The man asked Jesus, “Can you help him?” Jesus said that anything was possible for people who had faith. The man said, “I don’t have enough faith, help me to have more.” Then Jesus said to the spirit, “Deaf and dumb spirit, I command you to come out of the boy.” This cause the spirit to send the boy into a fit, making him foam at the mouth. Then the spirit finally came out of the boy and everyone was amazed. The disciples asked Jesus why they could not heal the boy and Jesus said that it could have only been done through prayer.
Outline what happened in the story about the Syro-Phoenician Woman’s daughter.
Jesus travelled to the territory near Tyre and went to a house so that nobody knew where he was but he could not hid. A woman who was a Gentile from Phoenicia in Syria had a daughter who had an evil spirit in her. This woman went to Jesus, knelt down and began begging him to heal her. Jesus said, “First, we must feed the children. It is not fair if we give the children’s food to the dogs. The woman said, “Sir, the dogs under the table take the leftovers. Jesus told the woman that because of her answer, once she arrived home she would find that the evil spirit would have left her daughter. Once the woman did go home, her daughter was healed.
